Here are answers to common questions about commissions, workshops and feltmaking.

Who is Fabulous Feltings?

Jane at Fabulous Feltings is a textile artist creating original handmade felted artwork in Wales. Each piece explores colour, texture and the creative possibilities of wool fibre.

Where is Fabulous Feltings based?

Fabulous Feltings is based in Cilycwm, nr. Llandovery, Carmarthenshire, West Wales.

Can I commission a piece of felted artwork?

Yes. Special commissions are welcome.

A commissioned piece can be developed around your ideas, whether you are looking for something personal for your home, a meaningful gift or artwork for a wedding or special occasion. Start by getting in touch with a brief description of what you have in mind.

Do you make felted work for weddings and special occasions?

Yes. I welcome commissions for weddings and other special occasions.

If your piece is needed for a particular date, please get in touch as early as possible so there is time to discuss your ideas.

Do you run feltmaking workshops?

Yes. I offer wet feltmaking workshops in a riverside setting in Wales, giving you the chance to spend creative time learning and making with felt.

Please visit the workshops page for current information, or use the contact page to ask about an upcoming workshop.

Do I need experience before joining a workshop?

This depends on the workshop. Some projects may suit beginners, while others require previous wet-felting experience.

For example, the Shibori in Feltmaking project is designed for people who already have some wet-felting experience, with guidance and support available throughout the making process. If you are unsure whether a workshop is right for you, please contact me.

What is wet felting?

Wet felting is a textile-making process using wool fibre, water, soap and agitation (massaging) to create a fabric. As the fibres are worked, they gradually bond together to form a strong, tactile fabric that can be shaped, textured and decorated. There is no stitching involved and the process is completely irreversible, unlike knitting or crochet which can be 'undone'.

You can find more feltmaking language in the Fabulous Feltings glossary.

Can I see examples of your work before getting in touch?

If you would like to ask about the availability of a particular piece, please get in touch directly.
