Too Late for Sheep Shearing?

Not for a Swiss Valais Black-nose sheep called Guto. It was love at first sight – but all I wanted was his fleece. He looks a little smaller now but will be kept in over winter and sheared again in January. Yes, that’s what they do in the Swiss Alps do that’s what’ll happen here in Wales. As a friend of mine described the process – it’s like ‘cut and come again’ – so sustainable. I’m really looking forward to using his fleece – who knows whether it will be for wraps, throws, wall hangings, or all of them – watch this space!

The Llandovery Sheep festival was a great success for all concerned – so much to see and do and we were blessed with scorching weather on the Saturday before the rain started to appear on Sunday.

Now that days are getting shorter isn’t it about time you thought of joining me for a full-day workshop in my riverside studio? It probably won’t be warm enough to work by the river but we’ll keep our fingers crossed for lunch outside while watching squadrons of sparrows flying back and forth to the bird feeding tree.

Why not make a weekend of it? I’m only 90 minutes from Cardiff and your journey will take you over the Brecon Beacons to the edge of the Cambrian mountains You’ll fell the stresses of your busy life fade away as you travel to me. We have so many wonderful places to stay including ‘Penstacan’ which is within walking distance from me. (www.cambrianescapes.co.uk).

In addition to full-day workshops I shall be putting together packages for children’s parties (they’ll have great fun massaging lots of bubbles) and hen parties (make some hearts to hold favours and for decoration at the wedding).

I’m beginning to prepare for the Christmas Season. Fabulous Feltings will be at the National Botanical Gardens (November 9th & 10th), Llandeilo Festival of Senses (in the Hangout November 15th-17th), Llandovery Christmas Fair (November 30th) and the Winter Artisan Fayre, Kinnersley Castle (December 7th & 8th). Phew! If you’re worn out by just reading my ‘show schedule’ let me take away the strain of choosing Christmas presents – I’ll be selling gift vouchers for Day workshops (double the benefit as your recipient will not only have a grand day out, but also take away 3 felted samplers). Alternatively visit my gallery and choose a unique piece of wearable art. Please contact me with any queries - I look forward to seeing you soon.
